Animal cancer patients are fully evaluated by our specialists often employing some advanced technology such as ultrasonography and computerised tomography. We are able to offer technically difficult surgical procedures often utilizing specialized equipment such as surgical stapling devices. Our anaesthesia section provides thorough patient monitoring and ensures safe anaesthesia with the utmost attention to pain control. Our intensive care facility and staff provide first class aftercare. Patients are carefully followed after treatment and we work very closely with our referring veterinarians to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Animal Cancer Care staff work along side Brisbane Veterinary Specialist Centre personnel in the front desk area, general hospital area, radiology, anaesthesia, surgery, clinical pathology and histopathology. We provide advice and information about cancer management to referring veterinarians all over Australia. We aim to give pet owners the best possible chance for their pets to live long, good quality lives.
Rod Straw is the director of Animal Cancer Care. He is a registered surgical oncology specialist. He has been working in the area of veterinary oncology since 1986. Dr Straw trained in the United States and was an associate professor of oncology at Colorado State University before returning to Australia where he has been treating referred small animal cancer patients since 1995.
Dr Straw has worked in the areas of surgical, medical and radiation oncology for many years.
